Hi, I'm Meg Staley.
I love to make things out of other things.
I’m best known for making colorful, comfortable clothing by dying, printing and rebuilding vintage garments.
Now I’m making family keepsakes. I create mementos you can hug, cozy up in or hang on a wall. My work celebrates the newcomers as well as commemorating those we've lost.
Celebrate new life.
I love using color, texture and ingenuity to create personalized baby quilts. I collaborate with parents and grandparents who are eager to celebrate the new arrival.
Memories move me.
Memorial works of art allow me to connect with a person in a deep way. Tell me your stories of shared lives and I will create a unique work of art which truly memorializes your loved one. I use clothing or other familiar belongings to create scarves, legacy quilts or stuffed animals.

Techniques / Process
My work is multi-layered and uses many different techniques. Old clothing, vintage textiles and housewares are modified and transformed through hand-dying, silk screening, block printing, appliqué and patchwork.
I love what I do.
After 4 successful decades in the fashion business and 25 years creating unique women’s clothing under the company name, Staley/Gretzinger, I’m enjoying making pieces one at a time, with care and respect, letting the stories in the fabric and my creative muse lead the way. In my Leelanau County, Michigan studio, an old general store dripping with history and charm, Meg Staley Handmade has found a happy home.
